An update from Sabetha Community Hospital
Can you believe it is August already? Once that calendar flips to August, many begin to start thinking about school. As you are thinking about preparing for school, don’t forget to add annual checkups to your to-do list. Before the hustle and bustle of school and all the activities it brings, it’s a great time to catch up on preventative services. Consider calling Sabetha Family Practice to schedule your child, or yourself, an annual preventative checkup.
Last month you heard from Dr. Longabaugh about the proposed building project. In addition to that project, there continue to be many other exciting things happening at Sabetha Community Hospital (SCH). SCH is excited to welcome Dr. Denis Jimenez, who will be joining Dr. Aaron Brown in providing general surgery services at SCH. Dr. Jimenez is expected to start in September and provide 24/7 surgical coverage with Dr. Brown for Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, Holton Community Hospital and SCH.
There will be a community meet and greet reception from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, in the SCH Lobby. Dr. Adam Streit, the Orthopedic Surgeon, continues to stay busy performing orthopedic procedures and seeing patients at SCH as well. Dr. Streit works closely with the Rehabilitation Department at SCH, as well as Nemaha County Home Health for the continuation of care for his patients.
The Outpatient Specialty Clinic continues to be busy despite Dr. Giroux announcing his retirement. We are working diligently to find another pain management provider to provide services in Sabetha. Levi Grimm, APRN, has seen an increase in the number of patients he sees for Botox injections, to treat chronic migraines.
SCH is hosting a babysitting clinic in conjunction with the Meadowlark Extension District. The babysitting clinic is open to youth 9-12 years of age and will give them basic skills in safety, nutrition, first aid, diaper changing, age-appropriate activities and emergency procedures. For more information or to register for the free clinic, email Patty Remmers at email@example.com.
For the month of July, we recognized Kim Carpenter in the Employee Spotlight. Kim is a Physical Therapy Assistant in our Rehabilitation Department. For the month of August, we are spotlighting Chris Isch. Chris works at the Family Practice doing Medicare wellness exams and also at the SCH Wound Clinic. In other staff news, Carla Renyer, RHIT, became the Director of the Health Information Management Department, and Julie Rieger moved into the Director of Housekeeping, Laundry and Dietary Departments in addition to being the Education Coordinator.
This summer has been filled with staff education. Staff members have used the summer months to renew and take new courses to complete certifications needed for their job as well as classes to help them grow in a variety of areas. Recently some staff members took part in a Mental Health First Aid Class to help strengthen their skills in this area. Our staff does a great job expanding their knowledge to be able to provide the best care possible to our patients.
