Lawn care business opens in Sabetha

In March 2022, Schuette Lawn Care – a new lawn care service owned by Ryan and Heaven Schuette – established itself in Sabetha.

The Schuettes started Schuette Lawn Care after they realized there was a need for high quality lawn care services in the Sabetha area. They saw an opportunity to start up their own lawn care business when the former owner of Schuette Lawn and Landscape – a separate lawn care business – put some equipment up for sale after its “doors” had closed.

“In January of 2022, we knew there was a need for lawn care services,” Ryan said. “Former [Schuette Lawn and Landscape] owner Shane Schuette [Ryan’s brother] had some equipment he was wanting to sell. We spent some time discussing and praying, ultimately deciding it [lawn care] was something we were interested in doing.”

Ryan and Heaven found that having a nice yard and home is something that Sabetha community takes pride in, and so decided to continue offering lawn care services to Sabetha, and to expand beyond.

“The Sabetha Community has long been known for taking pride in their homes and business establishments. We wanted to continue offering that to the Sabetha residents and expanding it to our neighboring communities,” Ryan said. “There is just something nice about a lush green lawn, free from grassy weeds and other nuisance broadleaf weeds.”

According to Ryan, Schuette Lawn Care offers a six-step lawn care program as follows:

1. Application 1: a granular fertilizer with pre-emergent herbicide to control grassy weeds (crabgrass). This is applied in February through April.

2. Application 2: a liquid nitrogen fertilizer with herbicide to control broadleaf weeds such as dandelions, henbit and plantain. This is applied late April to early June.

• Application 2A: a liquid insecticide to control surface feeding insects such as chiggers, fleas, ticks, etc. This is applied late April to August.

3. Application 3: a granular insecticide for white grub control, applied June to July.

4. Application 4: a liquid nitrogen fertilizer with herbicide to control broadleaf weeds. This is applied in September through November.

5. Application 5: a granular high nitrogen fertilizer to improve lawn root structure over winter months, applied in November through December.

The Schuettes also offer services beyond their lawn care program, as well as free quotes.

“We also offer Irrigation System Winterizations and ornamental spraying [trees] for nuisance pests,” Ryan said. “We are always expanding our services, so if there is something someone is interested in, we encourage them to give us a call to see if we can be of service. We also encourage current clients to reach out if they see something out of the ordinary going on with their lawn.”

Schuette Lawn Care does not offer mowing as part of their services, but they do have an individual they refer to for lawn mowing services – Pete Schuetz.
