Cardinal harriers compete at Onaga

Wetmore distance runners traveled to Onaga to compete in their invitational meet on Monday, Sept. 15, at the Cool Springs Golf Course with warm and breezy conditions. Teams were represented by Wetmore, Onaga, St. Mary’s Academy, Axtell, Rock Creek, St. Marys, Rossville, Washington County, Onage, Frankfort, Jackson Heights, Linn, Clifton-Clyde, Randolph, Centralia and Hanover.

Some 75 competitors flooded the course in Onaga and for the Cardinals boys, freshman Kristopher Fulkerson finished third overall coming in with a time of 19 minutes, one second. Also running towards the front of the pack was freshman Gavin Fulkerson, who finished in the 11th spot completing the course in 19 minutes, 55 seconds. The first place finisher, Grady Buessing of Axtell, finished the course in 17 minutes, 52 seconds.

For the Lady Cardinals, junior Rylie Nichols represented her school in the girls division and finished the route in 31 minutes, 59 seconds to give her 30th place.

For the next cross country competition, the Cardinals will travel to the Nemaha Central Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 22, in Seneca.
