Nancy Manche earns Kansas Rural Carrier of the Year Award

Nancy Manche is named the 2022 Kansas Rural Carrier of the Year.

Nancy Manche has been recognized as the Kansas Carrier of the Year for 2022 by the Kansas Rural Letter Carriers Association. At the beginning of September, she received the award for outstanding service at the National Convention in Orlando, Fla.

Nancy said she began her career with the United States Postal Service in 1986, serving as a substitute carrier for Don McKim in Morrill. Then in 2000, she became a regular carrier on the Fairview and Sabetha route, and in 2016, she transferred back to her home route of Morrill and Sabetha where she currently works as a full-time carrier.

Nancy was nominated as Kansas Carrier of the Year by a fellow carrier and then selected by a committee. She said that union participation is a large part of the selection process.

“I have been a union member since 1986 and active at the local level as a steward, performed as secretary/treasurer for the district and as a board member at the state level,” Nancy said. “I was also a Rural Carrier Academy Instructor in Salina for four years.”

Joni Aue, a postal patron, declared Monday, Sept. 19, as “Nancy Manche Day.” She sent out postcards to residents on Nancy’s route encouraging them to decorate their mailboxes or send a card to honor Nancy’s achievement.

On Monday, as Nancy drove her mail route, she was overwhelmed to see so many boxes decorated and cards that were left for her.

“I was overwhelmed at their thoughtfulness,” Nancy said.

She also was shown appreciation on Facebook, where many posted “congratulations” and “well-deserved.”

Earlier this month, fellow employees at the Sabetha Post Office celebrated with Nancy and her family.
