Small grain acreage, production reported
Winter wheat production is estimated at 244 million bushels, down 33 percent from last year, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The area harvested for grain totaled 6.6 million acres, down six percent from 2021. Planted acreage totaled 7.3 million acres, unchanged from a year earlier. The yield is 37 bushels per acre, down 15 bushels from 2021.
Oat production is estimated at 1.03 million bushels, up three percent from 2021. Area harvested for grain, at 25,000 acres, is up 25 percent from last year. Planted acreage totaled 110,000 acres, down four percent from a year earlier. Yield is 41 bushels per acre, down nine bushels per acre from last year.
Barley production is estimated at 165,000 bushels, down 38 percent from a year ago. Area harvested for grain is 5,000 acres, up 25 percent from 2021. Planted acreage totaled 15,000 acres, up seven percent from last year. Average yield, at 33 bushels per acre, is down 33 bushels from 2021.
