The fall of mankind

October has arrived and there are signs of autumn all around us. We call it “fall.” We see changes already in the color of the leaves on the trees, in the various plants and crops we drive by. Interestingly, the “fall” of mankind is all around us as well. No longer (actually was not perfect for very long) is the world perfect as God intended.

Man and woman decided to listen to someone other than God. They chose to believe what they wanted to believe and not what God had said to them in the perfection of the Garden of Eden. We see this all around us. We experience it. We display it. We have inherited a sinful nature, but when we confess our faith in the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, we do not have to live in that nature.

Proverbs 15: 9 says, “The ways of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, but He loves him [or her] who follows righteousness.”

The signs of the times are all around us. People choosing what they want, rather than what God has ordained. How far we have fallen…

Perhaps you have a wound that has not healed. It may be fresh, but it also may be an old wound that continues to fester. Perhaps a parent neglected you, a teacher bullied you, a spouse betrayed you… You are hurt and you are angry. Maybe you have allowed that to spread and disfigure you, a man or woman created in His Own Image.

Maybe it is a new, fresh wound. You were overlooked for a promotion or you overheard a person talking about you in a very negative manner. Part of you feels broken, part of you wants to fight, to “get back at” him or her. There is a fire burning in your heart, and it is not a warming fire, but a fire of destruction, and like a forest fire it spreads to others.

You, alone are in control of that fire. Do you extinguish it or fan the flames to make it grow? The choice is yours. Should I get over it, or get even? Shall I release it or resent it? Shall I let that wound heal, or do I keep picking at it until the hurt and anger turns into hatred? Only you have the ability to choose. God has given you control of your emotions and actions.

Revenge is wrong. You will never heal if that is what you seek. Without forgiveness (which NEVER means something is okay), bitterness is all that is left. I am so thankful that God forgives those who have placed their belief and trust in Jesus. Can you imagine the revenge He could inflict upon us without Jesus; that He will inflict on those who do not accept our Savior?

We can only find peace when we seek to live in the Image of God as He has created us. If we think we are doing a good job of that, we have greatly deceived ourselves. Seek to be like Jesus, for He has said if we have known Him, we have known God. Read the gospels. You will see and hear His words. Only in His Holy Word, can we find true peace and true love.

The apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “And He [Jesus] said unto me, ‘My Grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities [wounds or sicknesses], that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Don’t heed the words of others, heed and follow the Holy Words of God.

Embrace the beauty of this season and see Christ in every leaf and flower and cloud in the beautiful blue of the sky.

John 1:3 says, “Though Him all things were made and without Him nothing was made that has been made.”

Don’t fall for the words of the world, the advice of mankind. Fall in love with the One who created all things. See and know Him in the Glory of Creation. Look to Him and Him alone. May the Glory of the Lord be upon you and may you recognize it daily. Thanks be to God our Holy Creator!
