Bluejay harriers had their lone home competition of the season when they hosted the Sabetha Invitational on Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Sabetha Golf Club. The meet welcomed schools from some 12 different northeast Kansas communities varying in classifications.

In the boys division, freshman Charlie Lukert crossed the line first for his team, taking third place, followed closely by his teammate junior Kalvin Evans, who finished fourth. Freshman Josh Enneking was 20th, freshman Korbyn Stinnett finished 35th and sophomore Tabor Bachelor finished in the 42nd position, all aiding in their team’s total score.

As a team, the Bluejay boys were fifth overall. There were 63 male athletes competing in this portion of the race.

For the Lady Jays, sophomore Lauren Metzger was the forerunner for her team and finished eighth overall in a field of 51 female athletes competing. Freshman Jyllian Stapleton finished in the 14th spot, sophomore Lauren Bowles was 28th, sophomore Ellyannah Clinton finished 42nd, and junior Emerson Montgomery was 43rd.

“I was pleased with the way we competed today,” said Head Coach Doug Leiker. “Now it is league time, which is the best part of the season. Go Jays!”

The Big Seven League meet will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Royal Valley.
