AC Home cookies and cookbooks social to be held December 1
Are you needing some new recipes for the holiday season? Or maybe a gift for a loved one? Just in time, is a brand-new cookbook that has been compiled by a committee representing the Apostolic Christian Home (ACH). The cookbook published this year is the third edition of the Apostolic Christian Home Cookbook Collection.
The very first cookbook titled “What’s Cookin?” was published in 1980. The original book was sold at the annual AC Home bazaars and was available in the AC Home gift shop for many years. This edition is still available. Thirteen years later, “The Paramount Collection” was published in August 1993. This cookbook has been requested many times in recent years, but unfortunately there are no longer copies for purchase.
Due to the many requests and the time lapse of 29 years since an ACH cookbook production, a group of four ladies put their efforts together to create a third volume to add to the AC Home Cookbook collection. The 2022 new edition is called “Taste and See that the Lord is Good.” It is the largest cookbook in the collection, containing over 800 recipes.
Some special features in the new cookbook include a grilling and smoking section, crock pot recipes, freezing and canning, and household and kids’ activities. The grilling section came about after having several requests from men wanting tried and true recipes from local BBQ connoisseurs. The cookbook also contains traditional categories including homemade breads, desserts, salads and main dishes.
If you would like a cookbook copy, come to the “Cookies and Cookbooks” social from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, and/or 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. Both socials will be held at the AC West Village Dining Room, located at 1705 Roosevelt Street behind the AC Home.
The community is invited to come enjoy coffee (or hot cocoa), cookies and conversation as we kick off the Christmas holiday season. The cookies served will be from recipes included in the new cookbook. There will also be a raffle jar filled with items from local Sabetha businesses. The raffle winner will be drawn the week before Christmas.
If you are unable to attend either of the Cookies and Cookbooks events, contact the AC Home office at 785-284-3471 to request a copy. The cookbooks are $25 each with the proceeds going towards the new building project for the Apostolic Christian Home. The current nursing home facility is over 60 years old, and a new structure is being planned. There will be additional information and individuals on hand at both events to answer any questions about the project.
Come join the fun and fellowship as you sample delicious cookies and pick up your cookbook with recipes for a fabulous holiday meal!
