The Board of Nemaha County Commissioners met in special session on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the Commissioner’s Room of the Nemaha County Courthouse. The meeting was called to order with Chairman Jason Koch leading the flag salute. Present also were Commissioners Ben Glace and Dylan Keim, and County Clerk Mary Kay Schultejans recording the minutes.

The commissioners discussed the changes that they would like to make to the county’s current sick leave policy and vacation leave policy. The board also discussed changes that could be made to the current employee benefit package to give a higher raise to employees moving forward.

The board agreed to change the current sick leave policy to state that any sick leave accrued after Feb. 20 will not be eligible to be cashed out by the employee and to state that there will now be a cap of 320 hours on the amount of sick leave that an employee can accumulate.

Discussion was held concerning the payout for those employees with more than 320 hours of sick leave currently in their sick leave bank. The commissioners plan to further discuss this issue once more information is provided to them concerning the number of sick hours each employee currently has.

The board approved a six-percent cost of living raise for all employees (on their primary position only), except for the county commissioners, effective Feb. 21.

The next regularly scheduled meeting was held on Monday, Feb. 27. These minutes were not available at The Herald’s press time.
