An update from Sabetha Community Hospital
March began with the rollout of the Pulmonary Rehab Program at Sabetha Community Hospital (SCH). Respiratory Therapist Kendra Douglas began seeing patients who suffer from a chronic lung disease and desire to rebuild strength, improve lung function, decrease symptoms and increase their quality of life.
Over the next few months, SCH will be developing a Patient Family Advisory Committee. This committee will consist of patients and staff from SCH and Sabetha Family Practice. The goal of the committee is to improve the patient experience while maintaining quality healthcare. The committee will meet quarterly. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact me, Jennifer Ploeger.
The countdown is on for the SCH Community Health Fair! The Health Fair on Saturday, March 25, is open to anyone and there will be activities and information for all ages. Beginning at 8 a.m. inside the Sabetha Health and Wellness Gym, participants will find around 30 informational tables including blood pressure and blood sugar checks. Participants will also have to opportunity to get their cholesterol checked for $10, listen to various speakers, or take a chance at winning one of the many door prizes.
During the speaker sessions, we will hear from Dr. Adam Streit, Dr. Chris Tramp, Lori Menold, RN, Cynthia Hill, OT, and our final speaker session will be an educational session teaching first aid and Stop the Bleed.
Outside the Wellness Center, there will be a food truck set up. Bobby’s Food Co. is a food truck based out of St. Marys, Kan., and offers a vast menu. Finally, Sabetha EMS will have a touch-the-truck event at the EMS building for anyone to check out the ambulance. Car seat safety checks are also available that day. Check out our Facebook page for a complete up-to-date listing of activities.
This month Keri Bestwick, RN and Director of Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice, is our Employee Spotlight. Keri has worked for Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice since 2016. Keri worked as a field nurse until 2022, when she moved into the Director role in addition to seeing patients.
On March 30, we will celebrate National Doctor’s Day. We appreciate all the healthcare providers in our community and the dedication they have to provide quality healthcare.
As we look ahead, the Sabetha Community Hospital’s Annual Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 3, at the Sabetha Golf Club. This year, we are raising funds to purchase a NuStep for the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Programs.
