2023 Kansas Day baby is honored

Since 1987, the Nemaha County Farm Bureau Board of Directors has recognized the baby born on Kansas Day on Jan. 29, or the first baby born after Kansas Day. The board gifts the family with baby items such as diapers, wipes, etc.

Samuel Thomas Sunderland was honored as the 2023 Kansas Day Baby this year. He was born on Feb. 7, and weighed 9 pounds 2 ounces. He is the son of Luke and Carlotta Sunderland of Sabetha. Samuel is their first-born child. Maternal grandparents are Gerhard and Anette Richter of Berlin, Germany. Maternal great-grandmother is Hildegard Richter of Frankenberg, Germany. Paternal grandparents are Robert and Jane Sunderland from the Sabetha area. Paternal great-grandparents are Donnie and Loneta Sunderland of Rockaway Beach, Mo.

Taylor Olberding, Nemaha County Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Chair, presented the gifts to the family.
