Cougar Konzem takes part in basketball championship

Cougar Konzem, grandson of Jim and Marcia Sauer of Sabetha, was a member of the Ashland-Greenwood, Neb., boys basketball team that recently repeated winning the Nebraska State Basketball Championship in Class C-1. The Bluejays defeated Sidney 52-26, Ogallalah 50-20 and Auburn 54-24.
Cougar was a three-year starter for the Bluejays, whose team is known for their man to man defense. He was all-conference, first team C-1 State Tournament and second team All State in Class C-1. The Bluejays set a Class C-1 record for holding their opponents to the fewest points scored in Class C-1 tournament history.
Cougar will graduate at the top of his class and has been offered a full scholarship at UNL in Lincoln, Neb., to study engineering. Cougar is the son of Matt and Tammy Konzem. He has a brother, Carver. His paternal grandparents are Dale and Kathy Konzem of Beloit, Kan.
