The Lady Jays hit the road Monday, May 1, looking to pick up two wins over their Big 7 League opponent — the Royal Valley Panthers. Despite their efforts at the plate, Sabetha would fall in both games, 5-3 in the first and 11-6 in the second.

Game one

Game one was slow to start for both teams, with Royal Valley getting on the board first in the fourth inning. Sabetha tied things up in the top of the fifth. The seventh — and final — inning was where the game would be decided. Sabetha scored two runs to take the lead, but Royal Valley ramped up their offense and scored four runs to take the 5-3 win.

Juniors Alexia Hayden and Laura Edelman, senior Trinity Detweiler, and freshman Kiera Keim each tallied one hit during the game. Hayden, sophomore Erin Boltz and Keim tallied one RBI each.

Hayden started in the circle for Sabetha. She allowed five runs on seven hits, while striking out four batters and walking three.

Game two

In the nightcap, Sabetha scored three runs in the third and three in the sixth. Edelman cranked one out of the park, while sophomore Halley Mitchell hit a triple in the Lady Jays effort. However, Royal Valley had a big third inning, which aided them in the taking the 11-6 win.

Freshman Chloe Detweiler threw the entire second game for Sabetha. She surrendered 11 runs on 12 hits, while striking out two batters and walking three.
