Jays top Big Seven opponents at Holton

The Bluejay golf team was in action again early in the week when they competed in a Big Seven Quad Monday, May 1, in Holton. Sabetha, Holton and Perry-Lecompton matched skills with a few weather challenges to contend with, but the Jays would prevail and take the tournament by a 16-stroke advantage.

“The weather was beautiful, little cold and windy but overall, we will take it,” said Head Coach Scott Burger. “Our team played well. We shot a 160, which is very good score. Cole Grimes won with a 37, the second time our team has had an individual winner this year.”

Grimes, who is a junior, shot two over par for the course to take top honors and played three strokes better than his nearest two competitors, which were his teammates, junior Cullen Wikle and sophomore Roman Scoby, who tied for second place.

“My game was the best it has been in a while,” Grimes said. “Putts were falling and drives were going straight, all in all, was a good day.”

As for his play at Holton, Wikle said, “I just try to emphasize to myself that the next shot is the most important shot in the round.”

Junior Tyler Menold tied for sixth, sophomore Caleb Renyer finished eighth and junior Dalton Rokey finished in ninth place at the meet.
