Nemaha County Association of Retired School Personnel

The Nemaha County Association of Retired School Personnel met at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the Buzz Café with seven members present and District 2 Director Carol Bunning and her husband Gil. The group enjoyed lunch. A silent blessing was given in remembrance of long time member Don Fischer, who passed away April 5.
The program was presented by Myron Strahm. He shared about growing and harvesting pecans. He left some samples of his pecans for us to try.
Roll call was to name a classroom or school routine that was common when teaching but with the changes in education is unheard of today.
Co. President Joyce Fee opened the business meeting. Due to the absence of the secretary, Joyce read the minutes of the March 7 meeting which were approved as read. Alice Zahner gave the treasurer’s report. The report was approved.
Secretary Lyla Edelman had sent in 714 volunteer hours to the state association.
District 2 director Carol Bunning encouraged members to attend the state convention in Junction City on June 14-16.
Two $500 scholarships were presented on April 21 at Sabetha High School’s Awards/Scholarship program. The unit’s scholarship was awarded to Kate Beyer. Receiving the Naomi Eichenberger Memorial scholarship was Penn Bachelor. This scholarship is provided from the Mavis Glenn Trust Fund in memory of her mother. Applicants need to be going to pursue a teaching degree.
Our unit will be sending a $25 contribution to the KARSP Foundation fund.
Any school retiree in Nemaha County is encouraged to join the local and state associations. To join, send a check for $30 made out to NCRSP to Alice Zahner, 385 Parkview Drive., Sabetha KS 66534.
With no other business, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 10, at the Buzz Café.
