The Thursday, May 18, Brown County Genealogical Society meeting was opened by President Ray Thieme, with eight members present.

Gail Coker-Carr presented the April treasurer’s report and reported that our recent garage sale fundraiser was a big success. Marla Hathhorn read the April minutes. Motion was made by Mary Wenger to approve both reports. Seconded by David Barnes. Motion carried.

The Society will host a garage sale in conjunction with the U.S. Highway 36 Treasure Hunt on Sept. 14, 15 and 16.

The garage sale will be continued the next weekend during the Maple Leaf Days celebration. Motion by Coker-Carr to cancel the September meeting for this event. Seconded by Lyle Hinz. Motion carried.

Our fundraiser, Santa’s Attic, has been scheduled for Oct. 28 at the Hiawatha High School.

Penny Milroy reported on applying to Grain Belt for a $500 grant to replace broken bookcases at the library.

Milroy presented a program on her grandfather Frank Reynolds, who was Mayor of Hiawatha from 1969-1973. He was on the board that started the construction of the senior living apartments at Maple Grove in Hiawatha. Milroy also discussed Reynolds and his parents’ interesting family history.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, June 15, with a program by Wes Miller on the small towns of Brown County.

Refreshments were provided by Thieme.

Motion by Wenger to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Hinz. Motion carried.
