Seneca to host fourth annual Museum Day
Submitted
The town of Seneca is home to five different museums each highlighting a piece of the town and county’s history. The Nemaha County Historical Society operates the Historic Jail and Sheriff’s Residence, The Temple of Honor (Military Museum) and Hand Dug Well (which is the widest in the state of Kansas). Seneca’s Pony Express Preservation Society operates the Pony Express Museum, and the Seneca Fire Department Museum is operated by the Seneca Fire Department, both current and retired members.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, all five of Seneca’s museums will be open and free to the public.
“We are hoping to encourage Seneca’s residents and visitors alike to come and enjoy all our history,” said Kylee Bergstrom, Executive Director of the Seneca Area Chamber and Downtown Impact. “As well as everything else Seneca has to offer, from restaurants to shopping to recreation.”
Each of the museums will have “passports” to hand out to guests. Each museum visited will “stamp” the passport. If a person visits at least three of the museums, they can turn in their passport to be entered to win prizes that have been donated by Seneca’s business community!
In addition to Museum Day, Seneca will also be hosting their second live music event of the summer. These live music performances are free to attend and take place every second Saturday.
The June 10 performance will be Daniel Christian, who is an award-winning singer-songwriter. Christian blends a Pop/Rock sensibility with Country/Folk roots. He weaves hooky, stick-in-your-head melodies with thought provoking lyrical content. The result is a style of entertainment which, according to his fans, “sounds like cinnamon rolls taste.”
Second Saturday Live Music performances take place “in the shade at 5th and Main” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
