The 129th annual Bern High School Alumni Banquet was held Saturday, May 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Bern Community Building. Attendance was approximately 165 members and guests. The Bern Cafe served a meal of pork tenderloins, smothered chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, salad and sheet cake.

Following the meal, President Travis Meyer called the meeting to order. The Bern Alumni members and their spouses were introduced. T. Meyer thanked the Bern Community for letting us use the building for free. Anne Moser was thanked for updating the deceased alumni list. The board members and their spouses also were thanked for the time and work they put into the banquet.

Next, secretary Stefany Grove read the minutes from the 2022 alumni banquet. Bill Hecht made a motion to approve the minutes, with Victor Krainbill seconding the motion. Treasurer Tom Sheik presented the financial report. Ardena Kuenzi moved to accept the report as stated and Krainbill seconded it – motion passed.

The scholarship report was given by Assistant Secretary Laura Baumgartner. The high school applicants qualified to receive the scholarship were awarded $1,000 dollars. The High School Graduate recipients were Emilie Strahm, Reid Plattner and Sarah Haverkamp. The college student recipients were awarded $500. The Kingdom Messengers men’s choir provided some entertainment, singing several songs, and finished up by singing the Bern Indian’s fight song, “Hail to the Varsity.”

Registrar J. Strahm and Vice President Eric Stallbaumer conducted roll call. Memories were shared by the anniversary classes in attendance. Ron Creed (Class of 1959), Hecht (class of 1971) and Nick Moser (class of 1994) were recognized for perfect attendance.

Vice-President E. Stallbaumer then raffled off the beautiful centerpieces. Next, he asked a variety of trivia questions such as: Who is the older alumni present? Betty Ingerson. Who was the youngest alumni present? Darren Meyer. Who traveled the farthest? Clint Meyer from the Czech Republic.

E. Stallbaumer then recognized all the military personnel, past and present.

A memorial service was conducted by Vice-President E. Stallbaumer and Assistant Secretary Baumgartner. A list of deceased members was read along and a white rose was presented for each person followed by a moment of silence.
