An update from Sabetha Community Hospital

Can you believe that summer is coming to an end…quickly? There are just a few short weeks until school will be starting up again. As you prepare for back to school, don’t forget to schedule preventative screenings or well child exams. This is an opportunity to check on the growth and development of your child or grandchild. Be sure to follow our social media pages for more back to school topics.

It was great to interact with so many young people at the Library’s Summer Reading Program a few weeks ago. Staff from Sabetha Community Hospital (SCH) shared information about going to the doctor or hospital and allowed the young people to touch and try some of the equipment they might see at the clinic or hospital.

Since the last update, Jena Halls, DPT, has joined our team. Jena is a Physical Therapist who will see patients of all ages but would like to build a pediatric physical therapy program. Jena will work closely with Kasha Rebant, who is an Occupational Therapist at SCH that focuses on pediatric occupational therapy.

This month, Cheryl Garrett is our Employee Spotlight employee. Cheryl works at the Sabetha Health and Wellness Center. Cheryl said the thing she likes best about working for SCH is that she likes the people she works with and the people that come into the fitness center.

This month, we also recognized Christie Strahm, RN, and Surgery Department Director. The employees at SCH were asked to nominate someone at SCH they felt was deserving of the Health Care Worker of the Year Award and why. Christie received the most nominations and it was clear she was deserving of this award. Chief Operating Officer Garrett Colglazier presented Christie her award on July 3 as he read some of the reasons for her nomination.

The second Tuesday of every month is an opportunity to incorporate physical activity into your day by attending the Walk with a Doc program. The event is at 12 p.m. outside the Sabetha Family Practice. Participants, of all ages, will hear from a healthcare professional on a timely health topic and then walk together along Main Street. Participants may walk as fast or slow as they wish and as much or as little as their body allows. Our speaker in August is Lori Menold, RN, and Certified Diabetes Educator. We hope to see you on the second Tuesday of the month for Walk with a Doc!

The Sabetha Community Hospital Guild supports the hospital in many ways. Recently, they pledged funds to the hospital to help in the purchase of a backup generator for the Surgery Department. The Guild does several fundraisers throughout the year and one of those is the collection of Best Choice Labels. If you aren’t collecting Best Choice labels for another group, the SCH Guild would welcome your donation. You can leave them at the hospital or reach out to a Guild member.
