Brown County Commission 8.21.2023

The Board of Brown County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, Aug. 21, with the following members present: Chairman William Pollock, Richard Lehmkuhl and Lamar Shoemaker. Also present was Brown County Clerk Nicole Lee and Deputy County Clerk Barbara Grabhorn. County Attorney Kevin Hill was present for a portion of the meeting. Pollock opened the meeting at 8:10 a.m. All recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Lehmkuhl led the meeting with a prayer.
Judge John Weingart swore in the new Brown County Clerk Nicole Lee.
Hiawatha Chamber of Commerce Administrator Sarah Kleopfer requested use of the Courthouse lawn on Sept. 23 for the Maple Leaf Festival including use of electricity, water and restrooms. Kleopfer also stated the Historical Society would like to use the Southeast corner for a petting zoo. The County Commissioners requested a completed temporary county property use form.
Department Reports
Road and Bridge Secretary Tami Lehmkuhl presented additional bids for sheet piling for the three Districts. The commissioners accepted the bid from Husker Steel for the amount of $22,713.60.
Lehmkuhl presented informal bids for the repair of District 1 vehicle. The board approved the repair by FleetPride.
Register of Deeds Nellie Brockhoff requested consideration of ARPA funds.

The commissioners approved the Aug. 14 meeting minutes with a date correction.
After discussion, Shoemaker made a motion to reinstate the original proposed 2024 Budgets for the County Attorney to $186,000 and the County Clerk to $175,772. Motion died due to lack of second.
The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 28. These minutes were not available at The Herald’s press time.
