Logan Scheitel becomes the new agency owner of American Family Insurance in Sabetha after Dort Goodman retires.

On Friday, Sept. 1, Sabetha’s American Family Insurance (AmFam), known as Dorothy Goodman American Family Insurance, officially underwent a change of ownership after agency owner Dort Goodman retired from the position. Logan Scheitel of Falls City, Neb., has been hired for the position. The agency is now called Scheitel & Associates, Inc. – American Family Agency.

Logan has been training at the Sabetha AmFam agency since July 24, 2023, and has been in the insurance industry for four years. According to Logan, he started his insurance career with State Farm in Hiawatha, then went to an independent agency in Falls City, Neb., called Southeast Nebraska Insurance Agency, before joining the Sabetha AmFam team.

The Logan Scheitel AmFam location will continue to run as before, offering the same insurances such as farm/ranch, home, commercial, auto, life, etc. Logan doesn’t plan on making any changes while he is agency owner.

“There [will be] no changes in the way we operate. Dort and I have very similar traits with our approach to customer service,” Logan said. “Tawny [Tangeman], who has been with Dort for almost six years, is staying on board. We look forward to taking care of our current customers as well as our new ones! We will be at the same location, same phone number and same hours.”

Potential customers can contact Scheitel & Associates at 785-284-0200. Their operating hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They also operate on weekends by appointment only. The agency is located at 1426 S Old Highway 75 in Sabetha.

Logan lives with his wife, Brooke, and two-year-old son, Bennie, in Nebraska but enjoys his time spent in Sabetha.

“I currently live in Falls City, Neb., where I’m from, however, I do really like the town of Sabetha. I spent a lot of time here playing baseball during the summers of my high school career,” Logan said.

Logan looks forward to working with his AmFam team and serving the Sabetha community.

“I’ve been fortunate to spend the last month with Dort, Dennis [Goodman] and Tawny, getting to learn about the community, learning about American Family, and experiencing how valued [the Goodmans] are in the community. I’m blessed to have the opportunity to continue what Dort has started here,” Logan said. “I’m looking forward to serving the Sabetha community and getting to know all of you!”
