Update from Sabetha Community Hospital

On Monday, Sept. 11, you may have noticed a big tent set up on the east side of the hospital. On that day, Sabetha Community Hospital (SCH) paid tribute to the local first responders at the Building a Healthy Future Celebration. Following the tribute, Dr. James Longabaugh unveiled the plans of the Building a Healthy Future Project, which entails a new structure in addition to a remodel of the 2003 structure. This project would allow for the Sabetha Family Practice to be relocated to the hospital campus and includes expansion in many of the outpatient services such as surgery, the rehabilitation department, and the outpatient clinic.

The Patient Family Advisory Council will meet on Thursday, Sept. 28. This committee brings a patient’s point of view, perspective and experience, and integrates it into quality improvement projects at SCH. If you are interested in being on the Patient Family Advisory Council, please reach out to Jennifer Ploeger at the hospital.

Can you believe it’s Flu Shot Season? SCH will be offering Flu Shot Clinics each Wednesday during the month of October from 1 to 4 p.m. in the hospital lobby. They will offer regular and high dose vaccines.

The second Tuesday of every month is an opportunity to incorporate physical activity into your day by attending the Walk with a Doc program. The event is at 12 p.m. outside the Sabetha Family Practice. Participants, of all ages, will hear from a healthcare professional on a timely health topic and then walk together along Main Street. Participants may walk as fast or slow as they wish and as much or as little as their body allows. On Oct. 10, we will hear from Occupational Therapist, Kasha Rebant and Physical Therapist, Jena Halls on the Pediatric Therapy Program at SCH. We hope to see you on the second Tuesday of the month for Walk with a Doc!

Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice is holding their annual Volunteer Training on Oct. 26. If you are interested in learning more about what a hospice volunteer does, contact Social Worker and Volunteer Coordinator, Melinda Knowles at the hospital.
