The Board of Brown County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, Sept. 11, with the following members present: Chairman William Pollock, Richard Lehmkuhl and Lamar Shoemaker. Also present was Brown County Deputy Clerk Barbara Grabhorn. County Attorney Kevin Hill was present for a portion of the meeting. Pollock opened the meeting at 8:10 a.m. All recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Commissioner Lehmkuhl led the meeting with a prayer.

The commissioners held a five-minute executive session to discuss personnel matters of non-elected personnel with an executive session necessary to protect privacy interests. Present for the executive session were the three commissioners. No binding action was taken following the executive session.

The commissioners approved the purchase of tires for the Motor Grader from Harmon’s OK Tire for $9,716.24.

The commissioners approved the Sept. 5 meeting minutes.

The Sept. 11 claims were approved as follows: General, $23,888.72; Road and Bridge, $46,455.16; Employee Benefit, $171.46; Election, $109.70; Noxious Weed, $195.33; 911 SB 50, $108.08; ACC, $1,439.52; JJA CORE, $714.74; Services for Elderly, $1,088.10; Solid Waste, $98.17; and ARPA Fund, $49,500. The total was $123,768.98.

The Sept. 6 payroll was approved as follows:  General, $91,633.32; Road and Bridge, $17,264.07; Technology, $112; Appraiser, $8,660.02; Noxious Weed, $1,800; ACC, $8,532.90; JJA Core, $8,483.48; Services for Elderly, $3,410.75; Solid Waste, $6,021.06; Special MVT, $4,371.19; Employee Benefit FICA, $9,801.91; and Employee Benefit KPERS, $11,930.08. After State Unemployment and Workers Compensation of $154.92 and Insurance of $2,824.83 were taken out, the total was $169,041.03.

A discussion was held on road and bridge truck bed quotes. No action was taken.

The board approved an agreement with Midwest Engineering to collect eight road samples for $8,000.

No action was taken on the Brown County revised 2024 proposed budget.

Information was presented on the August 2023 Cash and Budget Summary.

No motion was made for approval of the Property Use Agreement request by David Vitt.

The commissioners requested custodial supervisor David Schuetz to explore other options for the Courthouse Lawn.

The next regular meeting was held on Monday, Sept. 18. These minutes were not available at The Herald’s press time.
