Committed to care — an update from Sabetha Community Hospital

Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas! If you were downtown on Monday, Dec. 4, you many have caught a glimpse of Santa Claus. Our Pediatric Therapy team hosted a sensory-friendly Santa event for children of all ages. This event offered a quiet, low-key environment for children (and their families). The team has also put together a developmentally appropriate toy list, by age, which can be found on the SCH Pediatric Facebook page.

Another exciting thing in our Rehabilitation Department is that Cynthia Hill, an Occupational Therapist, recently received her certification in Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Lymphedema, or swelling in part of your body, can occur for many reasons. The goal and desired outcomes of the manual lymphatic drainage is to reduce limb size, prevent infection, decrease fibrosis, improve range of motion and fit into clothing. Being able to offer Lymphedema services at SCH is a huge asset to our community.

Lisa Edelman, RN, and Michelle Hitchcock, RN, will be hosting a Childbirth Preparation Class on Jan. 6 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. This class is for first-time parents or those who would like a refresher. The information will target labor and delivery, comfort, newborn care, car seat safety and CPR.

If you received a new car seat over the holidays or have recently gotten a new car, don’t forget to have those car seats inspected to ensure your bundles of joy are the safest they can be while in the car. SCH has car seat safety technicians available who would be glad to inspect your safety seat for free.

As you begin filling out your 2024 calendar, be sure to save time on March 23 to attend the second annual Sabetha Community Hospital Health Fair. This year, the event will be held at the Main Event from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

From everyone at Sabetha Community Hospital and Sabetha Family Practice, we wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year. As a reminder, the Sabetha Family Practice will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1.
