Chamber’s Sabetha 150 year celebration

Gudenkauf and Murchison were present to tell the commissioners that Sabetha is 150 years old this year.

“Sabetha is 150 years old,” Murchison said. “We were wondering if you guys wanted to plan a celebration.”

Murchison said while a lot of dates have been “kicked around” to celebrate, they thought the best date to do it would be on Saturday, June 8, which is also the 25th Anniversary of the Twister’s Car Show. Murchison said some of the ideas they have thought about is to have water slides, free pool passes, live music, food trucks and more. They also discussed burying a time capsule.

The commissioners agreed this was a good idea, but asked that the Sabetha Chamber of Commerce come back with more solid numbers for the cost before they agreed to a donation amount.

Also at the meeting:

The commissioners approved the minutes from the Jan. 22 meeting.

The commissioners approved Wage Resolution No. 2024-02 for Katelyn Poe as a full-time dispatcher.

The commissioners approved Wage Resolution No. 2024-03 for a 90-day orientation for police officer Kevin Wagner.

The commissioners will meet again for their regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at Sabetha City Hall.
