Morrill City Council 2.5.2024

The Morrill City Council met in regular session on Monday, Feb. 5, with members Griffen Huning, Chad Youde, Gage Becker and Linda Wymer present. Mayor Ken Beckner presiding. Visitors present were Mark Backer, Emery Huning, Greg Duryea and John Lawson. Linda Wymer took her Oath of Office.

Minutes and vouchers were approved.

M. Backer offered his assistance to help with anything except electricity during Superintendent Wymer’s absence. After discussion, the council agreed to hire Mark part-time at $20 per hour, with a minimum of one hour.

J. Lawson asked if plastic should be placed under the rock at the substation for weed control. It was decided that would be a good idea. Concerning the driveway tube, it was decided to contact the County about possibly moving it.

E. Huning stated she is trying to earn money by selling trash bags for a trip she will be taking. She asked if the city would be interested in purchasing some. After discussion, the bags would be the right size to use at the City Park. It was decided to purchase 10 rolls at $12.50 per roll.

G. Duryea stated he would also help the city in the absence of Wymer. It was decided to pay G. Duryea part-time at $20 per hour with a minimum of one hour.

Mayor Beckner stated he is going to start sending notices to individuals concerning derelict vehicles in an attempt to clean up some properties.

J. Lawson questioned when the money for the main water line would need to be spent. The clerk stated she would look to find the date.

After reviewing the Hydro Power Pooling Contract and Resolution, the city approved Resolution 2024-A concerning Hydro Power Pooling.

The clerk stated there are three outstanding checks written to Evergy. Evergy would like the city to set up an ACH payment plan. No decision was made. The matter would be discussed further at the next meeting.
