Celebrate Sabetha’s 150th Birthday

Sabetha is celebrating its 150th birthday this year, and the City of Sabetha and the Sabetha Chamber of Commerce are hosting a big birthday bash on Saturday, June 8, in conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of Twisters Car Show.

Festivities will be spread out around town and will start in the early afternoon with free pool passes from 1 to 6 p.m. There will also be water slides next to the pool from 2 to 6 p.m.

Other activities will take place in the Mary Cotton Library Park with live music by Southbound from 6 to 9 p.m. There also will be food vendors set up including Sabetha BBQ Club, Grimm Girls Chuckwagon and Rogue Street Tacos. Free birthday cake also will be available while it lasts!

Commemorative 150th birthday t-shirts — which were designed by Sienna Clary — will be available for sale at Weathered Grace and Sabetha’s City Hall. T-shirts will cost $15 for sizes Small through X-Large, and $20 for 2XL and 3XL.

Mary Cotton Public Library will be having an exhibit on Sabetha’s history throughout the library.

Later this year, Sabetha will be burying a time capsule at the Mary Cotton Library Park during Old Time Saturday Night on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event will take place at 6 p.m. All Chamber members are invited to donate something that represents their business.

Sabetha’s History

The town’s settlement began circa 1854, with a name reportedly derived from the word, “Sabbath,” the day the first settler arrived. Sabetha was incorporated as a city in 1874.
