A sunsational summer

School has come to an end, and youth are anxiously anticipating water fun to be had at the Sabetha Aquatic Center and Sabetha Kiwanis Family Splash Park.

Aquatic Center

The Sabetha Aquatic Center will open Saturday, May 25, in time for Memorial weekend. According to Parks and Recreation manager Jeremy Haverkamp, the pool was painted this year so the opening was delayed by a week. Lifeguard training will take place May 22 to 24.

The Aquatic Center will be open on weekdays 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and from 1 to 8 p.m. on the weekends. There will also be water aerobics from 5 to 5:45 p.m., and lap swim between 6 and 7 a.m. and 5 to 5:45 p.m.

Hours for holidays including Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day are from 1 to 8 p.m.

Pool admission is $5 for adults 18 and up, $3 for ages 4 to 17, and free for children ages 3 and under with adult paid admission. A single season pass is $75. A family season pass is $150 for a family of four living at the same physical address, and $20 for each additional family member.

Loretta Buser will be the Aquatic Center manager, and Marissa Cox will be the assistant manager.

Swim Team

Anyone ages 7 to 18 is eligible to participate in swim team. Shark swimmers need to be taking swimming lessons alongside swim team in order to be familiar with the strokes. Practices are held from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. Wednesday practice will be held for our older Sharks. Kara Tramp and Luke Scoby are the head coaches. Teen coaches are Mya Grimes, Audrey Tramp, Audrey Herrmann, Izzy Scoby, Brendon Bestwick, Alivia Lang and Jyllian Stapleton.

Splash Park

The Splash Park is officially open as of Monday, May 20.

The Splash Park is open until dark every day throughout the summer and is free to the public.
