Jays take first at Regionals, head to State

On Tuesday, May 14, the Sabetha Bluejay varsity golf team competed against nine area teams during the Class 3A Regional Golf Tournament in Seneca. Sabetha played against Topeka-Hayden, Silver Lake, Marysville, Nemaha Central, Jefferson West, St. Marys, Hiawatha, Royal Valley and Rossville.

Sabetha came away with a first-place win, with 310 strokes, and a guarantee to move onto the KSHSAA 3A State Golf Tournament, which was scheduled to take place on Monday and Tuesday, May 20 and 21, at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course in Emporia.

Following Sabetha were: Topeka-Hayden, second, 322 strokes; Silver Lake, third, 344 strokes; Marysville, fourth, 345 strokes; Nemaha Central, fifth, 363 strokes; Jeff West, sixth, 377 strokes; St. Marys, seventh, 383 strokes; Hiawatha, eighth, 406 strokes; Royal Valley, ninth, 439 strokes; and Rossville, 10th, 446 strokes.

Leading the Bluejays were senior Cullen Wikle and junior Roman Scoby, who tied for first place with a score of 72. After a playoff between the two Jays, the Regional Tournament ended with Wikle taking first place and Scoby taking second.

Following Wikle and Scoby were senior Dalton Rokey, who tied for eighth place with 80 strokes; senior Cole Grimes, who placed 16th with 86; junior Caleb Renyer, who tied for 17th with 87; and junior Cole Moore, who tied for 21st place with 89 strokes.
