Kansas Highway Patrol 6.13.2024

At 6:35 p.m. Thursday, June 13, Deborah J. Wright, 61, of Horton was northbound on U.S. Highway 73, one mile south of Hiawatha, and was slowing to allow a motorcycle to make a left-hand turn onto westbound 220th Road. Morgan R. Thomas, 24, of Mayetta was also northbound on U.S. Highway 73 following behind Wright’s 2022 Kia Seltos, when Thomas made an evasive maneuver to avoid striking Wright. Thomas was driving a 2016 Honda Accord and clipped Wright’s vehicle as it made the pass. Chris D. Jorn, 50, of Horton was also northbound on U.S. Highway 73 behind Wright and Thomas. Jorn was driving a 2009 Nissan Versa and was not able to stop in time and struck Wright from behind. Thomas was wearing a seatbelt and had no apparent injuries. Jorn was wearing a seatbelt and had no apparent injuries. There was one juvenile present in Jorn’s car. Wright also was wearing her seatbelt but was taken to the Hiawatha Hospital with suspected minor injuries. One juvenile was present in Wright’s car.
