For the week ending July 19, there were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 8 percent very short, 26 percent short, 61 percent adequate and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 10 percent very short, 24 percent short, 63 percent adequate and 3 percent surplus.

Field Crops Report

Corn condition rated 5 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 50 percent good and 14 percent excellent. Corn silking was 61 percent, near 60 percent for both last year and the five-year average. Dough was 26 percent, near 22 percent last year, and ahead of 18 percent average.

Soybean condition rated 1 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 61 percent good and 11 percent excellent. Soybeans blooming was 51 percent, near 49 percent last year, and 48 percent average. Setting pods was 22 percent, ahead of 15 percent last year, and 14 percent average.

Sorghum condition rated 3 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 38 percent good and 15 percent excellent. Sorghum headed was 19 percent, ahead of 7 percent last year, and 12 percent average. Coloring was 3 percent, near 2 percent average.

Cotton condition rated 2 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 42 percent good and 12 percent excellent. Cotton squaring was 88 percent, well ahead of 63 percent last year, and ahead of 78 percent average. Setting bolls was 24 percent, ahead of 18 percent last year, but near 25 percent average.

Sunflowers planted was 97 percent, near 98 percent last year, and equal to average.

Pasture and Range Report

Pasture and range conditions rated 4 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 46 percent good and 11 percent excellent.
