U.S. Highway 73 project to begin this week in Atchison, Brown counties

Submitted

The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to begin a mill and overly project on U.S. Highway 73 in Atchison and Brown counties on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The resurfacing project spans approximately 16 miles, starting at Horton and progressing southeast to Lancaster.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane and directed by a pilot car and flaggers where crews are actively working. Drivers should plan for delays of up to 15 minutes. A 12-foot width restriction will also be in effect.

Work will occur during daylight hours Monday through Friday, and is expected to be complete in November.

All project work and traffic changes are conditions permitting and subject to change.

Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc., of Topeka, is the prime contractor on the $3.3 million project.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert, follow posted signs and refrain from hand-held mobile device use in all active work zones. For current road conditions, visit KanDrive.gov or call 511. For updates on highway projects in northeast Kansas, visit https://ksdot.gov/NortheastNews.
