The cross country season reached its high point on Saturday, Nov. 1, with the State Cross Country Championships at Rim Rock Farm near Lawrence. The top high school runners in classes 3A, 5A and 6A made the trip to the well-known course to test themselves against the best in Kansas.

Supported by her friends and fellow teammates, freshman Lucy Metzger competed against 106 of the best runners in the state. She crossed the finish line with a time of 21 minutes, 57.37 seconds to earn her a 56th-place finish.

“I am very proud of how she competed at the state level. She showed tremendous tenacity as a freshman and gave it her all!” said Coach Trenton Cox. “We had a great season this year, and I look forward to watching this team improve upon it next year!”
