Chana Orton, Sandhills Artist, will present at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, in the Stalder Gallery inside the Falls City Library and Arts Center. Orton’s work is currently on display in the Stalder Gallery and will be on display until Jan. 3 during regular library hours. Centered around her sense of place, Orton’s exhibition “Rural Life Captured” focuses on rural Nebraska deriving inspiration while ranching with her husband and family. Orton taught K-8 art for 17 years, spreading her love of art to youth. She is now a member of the Sand Painters Art Club and actively creates and exhibits work.

Growing up on a ranch near Mills, Neb., Orton says her passion for art developed at an early age creating drawings in her free time. In high school, Orton’s talent became recognized and she continued her pursuit of art at college. Her work throughout the exhibition highlights her acute attention to detail, texture, and emotion with pieces in pencil, Prismacolor, acrylic and mixed media.

“I am fortunate to have spent the majority of my life in an area of wide open spaces,” Orton said. “It is here that I have been able to admire and appreciate the amazing qualities of nature. Inspiration is gained from daily observations of the changing light, shadows, and atmosphere. I look at the way colors overlap and how forms interact with one another. I take time to notice the small details of the world around me. I see the emotion that is naturally found in our surroundings and I work to capture that emotion in my art. I want the viewer to have to a chance to see and feel a moment I have experienced.”

The Richardson County Arts and Humanities Council will host a reception and gallery talk with Orton at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11. Patrons can view the exhibition in the Stalder Gallery inside the Falls City Library and Arts Center Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon. Contact information is located in the Stalder Gallery.
