Soil Conservation Award: Wagoner Farms Inc

Wagoner Farms Incorporated (WFI) is a multigenerational family farm near Hiawatha, Kan., encompassing approximately 1,100 acres. The farm was established in 1926 when Frank and Laney Wagoner began purchasing farmland, creating a legacy of stewardship that has been passed down through generations. Their sons, Floyd and Raymond Wagoner, expanded the operation, later joined by Floyd’s son, Alvin.
In 1981, the farm became a cooperative, reflecting the family’s shared commitment to working together and caring for the land. Following the passing of Raymond, Floyd and Alvin, management continued under Leila Wagoner until 2022.
Today, the farm is overseen by Marilyn Wagoner Pike and Carolyn Wagoner Baker and their husbands, with Arthur Wagoner farming land previously cared for by his grandfather and father.
Conservation has always been a priority at Wagoner Farms. Under the guidance of Curt Jacobsen, along with Neal and Owen Jacobsen, who currently rent and farm the cropland, the family continues to uphold the conservation values established by earlier generations. In 2024, a water and sediment control basin project was approved by the Wolf River Watershed Board of Directors. This project eliminated erosion by filling ditches and increased productive farmland.
The Wagoner family takes pride in preserving and maintaining the land, honoring the example set by Raymond, Floyd and Alvin Wagoner, and ensuring the farm remains sustainable for future generations.
