The Nemaha County Conservation District will accept applications for state financial assistance from March 1 to March 15. These funds, provided by the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Conservation through the Kansas Water Plan Fund, support conservation practices that improve water quality and reduce soil erosion.
Eligible practices include terraces, grassed waterways, grass plantings, livestock water systems, cross fencing, ponds, grade stabilization structures, abandoned well plugging, and replacement of on-site waste systems and more. Applications will be reviewed and ranked based on local conservation priorities. Approved landowners will be notified of eligible practices and estimated cost-share amounts. Contracts must be signed and approved by the Division of Conservation before work begins.
All practices must meet NRCS and DOC specifications. Technical assistance is available at no cost through USDA NRCS.
For details or to request an application, contact the Nemaha County Conservation District at 785-336-5748, or email dana.schmelzle@usda.gov.
