Submitted

The annual Morrill Days celebration will be taking place this weekend, Aug. 7-9. An extra effort has been made to expand the celebration, and the community is invited to attend.

On Friday evening, Aug. 7, a Morrill Kids exhibition game, for 10 and under, will take place at 5 p.m., followed by a Softball Hall of Fame Presentation at 6 p.m., and the softball tournament at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the day starts with a Community Breakfast of biscuits and gravy at the Morrill Community Center from 7 to 9 a.m.

Tractor cruise registration will be from 8 to 8:45 a.m. at the Community Center. The cruise will leave the center at 9 a.m. and return around noon; travel will include some gravel roads. Upon return, the tractors will be on display in the park until parade time. Only licensed drivers will be allowed to drive and additional passengers must ride in a buddy seat. Trailer parking will be available at Morrill Elevator and the entry fee is $20. Call/text Stuart Manche for more information: 785-285-1931.

We also have it on good authority that the Buc-ee’s mascot will be making a grand appearance!

Throughout Saturday morning, there will be many activities in the park, including a car show (call/text John Lawson for information: 785-206-0836); kids’ games will take place at 11; and the 4-H food stand will be available from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Crafters and vendors will have items for sale (call/text Tiffany for information: 785-288-0173).

At 2 p.m., the annual parade will take place in downtown. Following the parade, an ice cream social will be held in the air conditioned comfort of the Community Center until 3:45 p.m.

In addition, after the parade, a cornhole tournament will be held northeast of the ball diamond. There is a $30 entry fee/team; prizes will be awarded. Pre-register by calling or texting Malerie Manche: 316-217-2950.

At 3:30 p.m., a Pinewood Derby will be held in the shelter house in the park. Prizes will be awarded.

Bring your family and friends to the Community Center at 4 p.m. for some Bingo entertainment! Prizes have been donated by local businesses.

Music is returning to the park again this year, beginning at 5 p.m. Please bring your lawn chairs.

On Sunday, a community church service will be held in the Community Center at 10:30 a.m.

A co-ed softball tournament will be held throughout the weekend. Food will be available.

Morrill Days is sponsored by the Morrill Community Chamber of Commerce.
