A few books that are new on the shelves this week.

I really feel like summer has returned – this heat is not what I was hoping for at the beginning of September. Right now it’s predicted mid to upper 90s all through next week as well and fall seems a dismal prospect. It doesn’t stop me from wearing my fall shirts though!

We have some fun stuff coming your way this fall, so stay tuned!

In a little news flash – the library is closed all day on Wednesday, Sept. 16, so please plan accordingly. This means that adult crafting, Creative Hour, will be moved to the following week – on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The library closes usually one day a quarter, on the third Wednesday, for staff inservice and training. We appreciate your understanding, it helps us complete tasks we can’t always do when the library is open – such as moving shelves or books, or catching up on projects that allow us to better serve our patrons.

I am getting a few new patrons enrolled in my book delivery program for senior citizens and homebound individuals. Although it doesn’t seem like it now, before we know it the weather will be cold and blustery and you might not feel like getting out! Don’t forget: we can order books for you and deliver on a weekly basis! Just call the library at 785-742-3831 or email jmay@hiawathalibrary.org for info.

This week, I will leave you with a glimpse into a few books that are just hitting the shelves this week! One is a new novel by the ever-popular Freida McFadden!

Brain Damage by Freida McFadden: You can find this book on our new fiction display in the center aisle, but don’t expect it to stay there long! McFadden fans have been impatiently waiting on this newest release, which features main character Dr. Charly McKenna. She had the perfect life until the night she was shot and lost everything. Waking up in a rehab hospital, she doesn’t even know her own name – she just knows that someone tried to kill her and they may still be out there. While she heals and slowly remembers, questions arise about the people she thought were closest to her – leading to terrifying realizations.

The Castle in the Glen by Rhys Bowen: Bowen is back with another spellbinding mystery-romance about an Australian writer, Emma Callander, who has been commissioned to complete the final historical mystery in a series by a well-known author whose memory is fading. When Emma travels to Scotland to conduct research for the novel she discovers the story is not fiction, but rather an unsolved true crime that dates back more than 50 years. Emma and the author’s handsome lawyer work to uncover the secrets of an aristocratic family, who will do anything to keep their secrets buried. Find this book on the new Mystery display.

The English Bookstore in Bologna by Boo Walker: In this new fiction piece, Walker, who is the bestselling author of An Unfinished Story and The Stars Don’t Lie, tells a tale of an enchanting Italian city and a bookstore, where the owner yearns to turn her struggling shop into a community hub. One summer, the lives of five struggling patrons merge at the bookstore, where they connect and learn to heal.
