Eleonora Cola, Lanie Menold go 2-2 at State

On Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17, juniors Lanie Menold and Eleonora Cola competed for the Sabetha Bluejays as a doubles team at the KSHSAA Class 3-1A Girls’ Tennis State Championship, located at the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka. Twenty-two teams were present, and the top three schools placing were Ellsworth, first, 45 total points; Central Plains, second, 27 points; and Conway Springs, third, 26.
Menold and Cola went 2-2 at the double elimination tournament, but unfortunately did not place in the top 12 doubles teams.
The duo won their first match-up against Wabaunsee, 6-3 and 7-5, and were later matched up against Central Plains. Cola and Menold lost in that match, 5-7 and 2-6, which sent them to compete on the consolation side of the bracket.
On the other side of the bracket, the Lady Jays were paired up against Ellinwood and came away with another win, 8-0. Cola and Menold advanced and then played against Osborne. The duo received a loss to Osborne, 3-8, which unfortunately ended the Bluejays’ tennis season for 2026.
Congratulations to Cola and Menold for being state qualifiers this year!
