A visit filled with memories:     Dennis Jadwin returns to Sabetha

Former Sabetha resident Dennis Jadwin returned to Kansas recently under the weight of deep sorrow, coming home to attend the memorial of his brother, William Jadwin, held in Hiawatha. Though the reason for the visit was heavy, it also became a meaningful moment of remembrance for his family.

We were honored to accompany him and revisit the familiar places that once shaped our family’s history. Walking through the old stomping grounds brought back a flood of childhood memories — the joys, the tears and the laughter that comes from sharing stories long tucked away in our hearts. We also made sure to capture a photo of Dennis’s memorial, now a lasting tribute to his service.

Dennis graduated from Sabetha High School in 1966. The following year, in 1967, he joined the National Guard, beginning a journey that would take him across the country and eventually overseas. He completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, S.C., then continued with Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Ga. After returning briefly to Kansas, he was activated and sent to Fort Carson, Colo., before receiving orders for Vietnam in 1969.

During his service, Dennis extended his tour and transitioned into the regular Army. He returned home in 1970, carrying both the experiences and sacrifices of war.

Following his service, Dennis moved to San Marcos, Texas, where he attended Southwest Texas State (SWT) for two years. He went on to build a long career as an over-the-road truck driver for more than 20 years. In his late 40s, Dennis faced serious health challenges after exposure to Agent Orange. Today, he makes his home in Universal City, Texas with his wife, Janice.

We thank you for your service.
