Brown County Genealogical Society 10.15.2026

Submitted by Sandy Carter

Acting Secretary

The Oct. 15 Brown County Genealogical Society meeting was opened by President Ray Thieme, with 19 members and guests present.

Wendall Ganstrom presented a program on “The Story of Wolf River.” He started with the Glacier period and guided us through to present time. He told us about the tribes, Lewis and Clark explorers and others who followed Wolf River, including the German American painter, Albert Bierstadt. He shared with us the many floods of the river in Robinson and other surrounding towns. He explained how part of the river was straightened and showed us where they had to stop.

After the presentation, we enjoyed refreshments furnished by Jeri Thompson, Sandy Carter and Doug and Brenda Meyer.

Then, we started our business meeting at 8:30 p.m. The minutes of the August meeting were read by Carter, acting secretary, and approved. The treasurer’s report was given by Carter, treasurer. The treasurer’s report was approved.

In new business, Carter reported that as per our bylaws, we would be electing new officers for the year 2027 in November at our annual meeting. She also told the members about a donation of pictures that used to be in the Cozy Café in Fairview. A notebook will be created for these pictures and indexed.

Meeting adjourned.

Our next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at our Library with a program by Sharon Pontious.
