Horton seniors first aid class

On Jan. 14, we had the pleasure to certify Horton High School seniors in First Aid, CPR and AED. The “Teen Lifesaver Initiative” was implemented by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office in 2015. Over 2,000 high school students, faculty, staff, bus drivers, first responders, foster parents and caregivers have been certified at no cost to them since the program began.

This program has been supported and funded by generous caring individuals in our county. Those certified will carry the gift of life saving skills with them for the rest of their lives.

Starting with this class, KDOT provided trauma kits and high visibility traffic safety vests to all students who successfully pass the certification tests. This life saving equipment greatly enhances the resources available if the need should arise. Don Hughes and Rob Istas are KDOT Law Enforcement liaisons who explained the trauma kits and their purpose, as well as interacting with the students.

I appreciate the support we have had from the schools and community on this very worthwhile project.
